Why did it take so long for God to send Jesus?

I've often heard this question time and time again. Even I have wondered it myself, and I never really truly understood. Just why did it take so long for God to send Jesus?

First, I would like to make it clear, that God is very serious about His plan for human salvation. He would waste no time whatsoever. God is all knowing and all powerful, so I think it is reasonable to assume that the time Jesus came had to of the been the perfect time, just for these reasons alone.

Now, I would also like to make it clear that time is not a problem here. This question only would be a problem to someone with limited time or limited resources. But of course God has unlimited time and unlimited resources. So I don't think time is a problem here at all.

What's really crucial here is not the time involved. Rather, it's the population of the world. Estimates have shown that the number of people who have ever lived on this Earth is somewhat around 69 billion to 110 billion. Only a very small percentage of this percentage existed before Christ. God's timing couldn't of been more right. Christ came before this worlds population exploded.

But what does scripture says? The Bible says that:

it was at the "fulfilled time": Mark 1:15

it was at the "proper time": Romans 5:6

it was at "the fullness of time" Galatians 4:4

it was when "the times reached their fulfillment": Ephesians 1:10

it formed the very "conjunction of the ages": Hebrews 9:26

When Christ came, the nation of Israel had been prepared and it was also an age of literacy and learning.

Conclusion: Jesus couldn't of came at any better of a time. The stage was all set. He simply just had to come and do what He had to do.
