Is Christianity pagan?

In this blog, I will be refuting the claims from the movie Zeitgeist and other claims going around saying that Christianity is nothing more but a rip off from pagan myths.

One thing that has been going around on the internet is a movie called "Zeitgeist". It seems it has became one of the most popular internet movies. For skeptics, this is just what they need, but for Christians, it may offend them. I really do hope that no one's faith was destroyed in this movie. But, I had to find out if this movie was really telling the truth. Now, I just wanted to say that it HAS been refuted and everything pretty much in it is a lie. I discussed this briefly on another blog talking about atheism and I gave some helpful links which I will provide at the end of this blog.

Okay, the movie shows us and tells us about how Jesus is not the only "mythological" character in this world that was born of a virgin, died and resurrected. They say that Jesus is just the most resent character that is being used when there has been many other characters like him. Such as Horus. Krishna, Dionysus, Attis and Mithra (Mithras). This movie has horrible, flat out errors in it and who ever made it obviously was desperate to try to bring down the Christian faith. Although I do agree with part 2 of the film, I must say that part 1 was pretty out of the blue. Speaking of which, part 2 talks about a New World Order and the microchip, which was foretold in the Bible, so the movie only is strengthening me faith if anything. That's what I mean when I say I do not think the narrator knows what he is talking about. The Bible has prophecy in it and I don't think you can refute that. So if the Old Testament prophesied Jesus, it everything came true, then it must be true. Now all you none believers out there are probably saying to yourself "Did it ever occur to you that they made up Jesus and fit the Old Testament prophecies?" Well, there are several things wrong with that. Some things the Bible prophesied CAN'T be carried out by men to make it look true. In fact, the majority of it is irrefutable. So of course I take it seriously and every prophecy besides the end times prophecy, has indeed come true and there is proof of that.

The ones who inspired Zeitgeist were part of the occult, and involved in masonry. I will provide links at the bottom of this page to show the flaws and the lies in Zeitgeist, the movie. I went over this topic a little bit in one of my other blogs, however, I discussed the trinity and why I believe it is not pagan. I will now list the true characteristics of the deities that Zeitgeist has brought forth.

Zeitgeist gives a list of characters that are supposed like Jesus Christ and that pre-date Christianity. The list that they present are Horus, Attis, Krishna, Dionysus and Mithra(s). I have looked at a few of these supposed other deities and from what I understand, they are not like Jesus Christ and had no way of being the inspiration of Christianity. Skeptics even give me Aztec mythology and try to say that it is an inspiration to Christianity. Think of the logic in that. The narrator says that all these characters have similar things in common and is based on astronomy. This is simply not true. I will give videos on this topic when the website works. But for now, I am just going to give a list of what these deities are really like.

Horus:

The narrator calls Horus “the sun god of Egypt around 3000 BC.” The narrator also asserts that the Horus myth is based on the sun’s movement through the sky being anthropomorphized.

Horus, according to the narrator, was associated with light and Horus’ enemy, Set, was associated with darkness.

Response: This is a far too simplistic representation of myths concerning Horus.
In reality, there were many versions of “Horus.” I always thought Ra was the sun god, but I could be mistaken.

Claim: Horus was born on of a virgin on December 25.

Response: Horus' mother Isis, impregnated herself by putting together Horus' father, Osiris' body back together after being dead. She hovered over his body and was impregnated by Osiris' sperm. I don't see how that was a virgin birth because it invovled a male. No holy spirit was involved. I am pretty sure there is no mention of Horus and December 25. Even if this were true, so what? There is no mention in the Bible that Christ was born on December 25. Ask any scholar and he/she will tell you Christ was more than likely born in September.

Claim: Horus was a teacher at the age of 12.

Response: Where in what source states this?

Claim: Horus had 12 disciples.

Response: I highly doubt that he 12. I am sure he had disciples, yes. But why does that matter? If you claim to be a god, of course you will get followers. Even Jewish teachers had followers. But did Horus have exactly 12? Doubt it.

Claim: Horus was baptized by Anup at the age 30.

Response: Which source states this? Did baptism even come from come from Egypt? Muslims wash there hands before they pray, Buddhists wash too, and Christians wash there whole body. Even if some type a water ritual was involved in Egyptian rituals, it doesn't matter.

Claim: Horus preformed miracles and healings.

Response: If you make up a story of a deity, you will include miracles. This has no influence on Christianity. Horus did not walk on water, Horus did not turn water into wine. If anything, the teachings of Christ has more reliability then any of these claims that Horus did this and that.

Claim: Horus was known as the "truth, the light, the way, lamb of god, the good shepherd so on.

Response: What pre-New testament source states this? I was very surprised when they claimed he was known as the lamb of god. There was more than one god in Egyptian mythology, he was not called the lamb of Osiris, he was known as the lamb of god? Lie. We get the whole "lamb" of god because the Jews use to sacrifice lambs and goats to god in the Old Testament.

Claim: Horus was betrayed, captured, crucified and after 3 days, resurrected

Response: Which pre-New Testament source states any of this?

Attis:

Claim: Attis was born of a virgin on December 25.

Response: There is no mention of December 25 and Attis. He was not born of a virgin, he was born from a tree by the result of Zeus' spilled sperm.

Claim: Attis was crucifed, placed in a tomb and thus, resurrected.

Response: Which pre-New Testament source states any of this?

Krishna:

Claim: Krishna was born of a virgin on December 25.

Response: I went to a Hindu's youtube page to see if this claim was true. According to a practicing Hindu, he was not born of a virgin and the date is unknown. Krishna's mother and father was placed in prison, and they had many kids before Krishna.

Dr. Edward Bryant, professor of Hinduism said this about the claims that Krishna was crucified. "That is absolute non-sense. There is absolutely no mention anywhere which alludes to a crucifixion."

He also mentions that Krishna was killed by an arrow from a hunter, he died and there was no resurrection. He also said that Acharya S's does not know what she is talking about and that there are no Indian gods that were crucified. Acharya claims that there are 24 comparisons of Krishna to Jesus. Dr. Edward Bryant said that 14 of her 24 comparisons are wrong. What about all the others? Well, Benjamin Walker in his book "The Hindu World" states that there can be no doubt that the Hindu's borrowed from Christianity.

Buddha:

Acharya lists 18 similarities in which led Mike Licona to Email Professor Chu-fang Yu, who specializes in Chinese Buddhism. She said "None of the 18 similarities are correct. A few, however have some correctness in them, but are badly distorted."

Chu-fang Yu said the following about Acharya S

"The woman you speak of is totally ignorant of Buddhist. It is very dangerous to spread misinformation like this. You should not honor her by engaging in a discussion. Please ask her to take a basic course in world religion or in Buddhism before uttering another word about things she does not know."

Dionysus:

Claim: Dionysus was born of a virgin:

Response: There are actually 2 known accounts of Dionysus' birth. From what I heard, they are not similar to Jesus.

Once again, I highly doubt that this deity is like Jesus at all. There are no mentions of him doing this and that like Jesus did. Dionysus was not crucified, he was killed by the titans. Apparently he was torn to pieces, and was put back together by Zeus. I am not sure if he was resurrected, his body was only preserved.

Mithra:

Claim: Mithra was born of a virgin on December 25.

Response: Mithra was born from a rock fully mature. I am not sure if he was born on December 25. What I read said he was, but that doesn't matter because Jesus wasn't born on December 25.

Just like all the other deities, I doubt Mithra had any inspiration to Christianity.

Claim: Mithra was crucified, after 3 days, resurrected.

Response: Mithra didn't even die, he was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire. So there is no need for a resurrection.

Claim: Mithra was known as the way, the truth and the life. The messiah and so on.

Response: Which pre- New Testament source states this? I found this laughable. The messiah? That word comes from Hebrew, how can Mithra be called that? Even if he was referred to the messiah, it isn't a big deal. It doesn't pre-date the Bible. If you look at the messianic prophecies, you will see that Jesus was fulfilled all of them, Jesus is the messiah.

Acharya S's book "The Christ Conspiracy" which is Zeitgeist main source. Don't you find it funny how Zeitgeist has no good source besides people's books?

I want to talk about other stories and if Christianity really is pagan. Then I will give you links to see the other mythological characters been refuted.

The Trinity, pagan?
I have watched a video on youtube with this guy talking about how the trinity has been around, taught, in many other cultures such as Babylon and Egypt. The Christian trinity is way different and not like the pagan trinities (there are some). He said that the whole concept of God being 3 in 1, having the father, the son and the holy spirit has been believed before in the past. This is simply not true, I would like to see one case of that. Even if so, of course there might be similarities (which I will get to in a moment) but more than likely it has been fabricated to fit a lie. There are pagan trinities. But they usually consist of a father, a mother and a son. Now you might say "It may be different but people who made up the trinity took something like "the mother" and just made it into a holy spirit". I just want to say that the Christian trinity is way different and Im going to explain. Yes, there are pagan trinities, but is the Christian trinity really stolen? I say no, not because I am a Christian but because there is not enough strong evidence of this being so. Christianity teaches that the father, the son, and the holy spirit are 3 different beings but all one. I know that sounds impossible but I will provide you with videos trying to help you understand. Sadly, many Christians reject this teaching. There IS Biblical evidence, using verses telling about how Jesus is God in the flesh. No other pagan trinity teaches that. Although I say how they use a pyramid to teach the trinity is a little satanic, but that doesn't mean that the father and the son and the holy spirit aren't one. The old testament even teaches the trinity, which leads me to my next point. The Jews have been around for a long time, but Babylon and Egypt has been around longer, so the Jews must of stolen it off of them because they are close. Well, the Jews dont even realize that the God of Israel is the trinity. They only worship him, alone. There are Old Testament Bible verses showing Jesus appearing in pre- carnated form. Verses like "Let us go down and create them in our image" and "Let us go down and confuse there language" shows that the trinity has always existed. The Jews dont even realize, and they reject Jesus (there own God of Israel). Meaning that the father, the son and the holy spirit created the heavens and the Earth. As a Christian, I say that Satan knew about the trinity (of course) and went around in ancient cultures teaching false trinities. Same goes for these other mythological characters that supposedly similar to Jesus.

Bottom line, it's simply not true. There is no other like Jesus, because he is the way, the life and the TRUTH. He is God.

Oh and as far as the Catholic church, yes they did steal pagan traditions and added them to there church. Dont take mans words for it, take God's word, the Bible. The Bible doesn't teach or say anything that is being taught to many people. Things like Christmas and Easter. Not that you shouldn't honor those day for God, but the traditions of it is pagan added by men. Anything that contradicts the Bible, is a false teaching. And over time they tried to make it official and put it in Gods word, wonder why. Maybe because God said that nobody will add or take away from this book or they would be punished.

In this part of the blog, I am just going to cover other stories in the Bible that are supposed copy off of other stories.

Noah's Ark:

A great flood was foretold in many different legends. Some of the best known accounts are found in the Sumerian (talked a little about this in one of my previous blogs) and Babylonian texts. Actually, there are 200+ legends and stories found around the world of a great flood. With this, and a supposed giant boat on the Mountains of Ararat, just like the Bible said were it landed, I say there is overwhelming evidence of a flood. All these legends and stories pretty much tell the same thing, how a flood took place and a man and his family took animals on a boat and survived it. How could all these stories be found world wide, yet people dismiss it as a fairy tale? Maybe the reason why there are so many legends about this, there was one! But which one was original. many believe, because the Sumerian and Babylonian tablets came before the Bible, that the Bible is a copy. But is this true? I would have to argue no, it is not. Lets suppose a flood did happen and the the Biblical account of the flood is true, do you realize that the other legends are just copies off of the truth? Genesis means generations, so if the Jewish god did really do all this in Genesis, the others are copies. I mean it had to start from somewhere, right? I think the Biblical text fits it best. if I am not mistaken, they have found tablets which are the same date (possibly pre-dating these other legends) of a flood that a god caused.

Moses:

There are supposed other characters, like Moses, that was placed in a basket, set adrift in a river to avoid infanticide and then rescued and raised by royalty. Another claim is that characters, such as Manou of India, Minos of Crete, and Mises of Egypt were given a law from a god. It has been proven, by recorded dates that these stories of these characters were really after Moses. The reason why Moses received a law was because of the Jewish people. Many of these other legends doesn't include a law, or a god giving them. The funny thing too is that some do not pre-date the story of Moses.

Amen-Ra. origin of the word Amen?:

Yes there was an ancient Egyptian god named Ra. He was later called Amen-Ra. Could it be that it was changed after the Jews came up with the word? Or did the Jews steal from the name of this god? From what I understand, the actually name of Amen-Ra was spelled differently. Amon, Amun, Ammon, and Amounra are examples. Many scholars believe the word Amen started even before Egypt. The root of this word comes from the Hebrew word aman, which means "truth" or "so be it". If this word is said in Hebrew, it means something totally different. If this word does have pagan roots, it still does not matter. It doesn't prove a thing! If a Christian says the word amen, it does not involve a different god, it only means "truth" or "so it bet". I hope anyone who reads this gets my point.

The Tower of Babel:

Because I study religion, I would have to agree somewhat to those who claim all religion has similarities. As I said in previous blogs, a lot of traditions and festivals do have pagan roots, but this has nothing to do with Biblical Christianity. My explanation for why many religions have similarities goes back to the story of Babel described in the Bible. There are other ancient records confirming that this tower existed. Instead of this somehow debunking the Jewish faith, it only confirms the Bibles truth more! According to the Bible, every human being spoke one language, and were all the same races. They made a great city and built a great tower so that they would not be separated. They all had the same belief. The Bible says that God confused there language and spread them across the earth after they started plotting against each other. This one belief soon was spread across the earth in different languages and cultures. After time went by, there are strony differences, but also small similarities. To say that all religions have the similarities or pagan roots is only supporting the Bible. This is the reason why creation stories found around the world have similarities too. But this does not debunk Christianity. Once again, lets suppose that the Bible really is true and the word of the true living god. Do you realize that the people of the tower and the birth of false religions only copied from the Bible instead of the other way around?!

Genesis, Genes of Isis?:

I am only going to keep this one short. The first book in the Torah is indeed Genesis, but it is not it's original name. Genesis means "In the beginning". And indeed the first book of the Bible tells about a beginning. So those who claim that Genesis means "Genes of Isis" fail to make a point.

The cross:

So many people say the cross is pagan. Of course it is pagan. The Bible does not say that the cross is a holy symbol that Christianity started. The cross was also a tool used by the Romans to execute people and it just so happens that Jesus was crucified on it. Many believe that Jesus wasn't even crucified on a cross, but on a tree or an upright steak. It is unsure, I would have to say it was a cross because Romans used the cross to kill people on it.

Baptism:

I already showed you above that deities like Horus was not baptized but from what I know there have been claims about Osiris as well about baptism. Many say that baptism has pagan roots all the way back to ancient Egyptian times. I have done research and I found found out that there are other religions and cultures that involve water or in a sense like baptism. But is it like Christian baptism? Hindu's and Buddhists use water. The Hindu's wash themselves in a river, to wash away there sins and pure them for a day, but does this mean Christianity stole off of them? Buddhists wash there hands before they pray, just like Muslims, but does that mean Christianity stole from them? Certainly not. It is quite obvious here that water is important in all the main world religions. After all, people feel refresh after they take showers or wash themselves, so it would make sense that there is some type of water ritual involved in a religions belief. Jesus talked strongly about the baptism of the holy spirit, so if you ask me, this whole pagan baptism stuff does not concern Christianity!

Is there an secular, out of the Bible evidence that Jesus existed?

Many skeptics say there isn't even historical evidence of a man named Jesus (Yeshua) who lived. I would have to disagree. I believe the Bible is a document itself! Here you got all these scriptures in the New testament and even lost scriptures talking about a man named Jesus. I highly doubt all this came together for a giant scheme. Roman historian, Tacitus and Jewish historian Josephus being the strongest people who claim a man named Jesus existed. There are about a dozen sources for him, within about a hundred or a hundred and a half years, after the ministry of Jesus. And these report aspects, all the way through his life. You might think that these secular sources shy away divine attributions of Jesus. But they really don't! For example, a roman governor tells us that Christians use gather together in a particular day of the week before dawn to sing praises to Jesus, as on to a god. A even earlier source, written by someone who reports Mediterranean history tells about a miracle. he talks about the darkness that surrounded the world when Jesus died. 2/3 of sources tell that he died. We really do have good historical evidence of him existing. Non-Christians scholars reject the claim that he never existed.

Conclusion: Christianity is not pagan. Writers and teachers don't have real sources to back up there claims. There are non like Jesus Christ. Jesus has too much prophecy to back him up. The big difference between Jesus and all of these deities is this....Jesus saves lives! The only threat, if anything was Horus, because he predates the Bible. But what doesn't matter because he is nothing like Jesus! Prophecy foretold what Jesus would be like in the Old Testament, so even if these characters are like Jesus, satan went around and lied of what the real messiah would be like. In fact, the movie brought that up and they made it sound sarcastic.
