Response to Richard Dawkins view on the Old Testament (Hebrew) god.

Richard Dawkins in his best seller book "The God Delusion" makes some pretty harsh and vicious attacks not only on Christianity, Islam and religion period. But he picks on the Jewish god the most. I myself study the Old Testament (Tanakh) and am aware of the killings involved. I want to make a response to his statement, which can be found below.

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

Richard is almost certain that he fully knows and understands the Hebrew god. Richard is also certain that his god is fictional. This is where he makes his first mistake. Everything he said above is pure assumption and lack of knowledge of the god of the Old Testament. But I do not see why Richard suggests that the Jewish god is jealous and proud of it. He clearly doesn't know what God's jealousy is in the Bible. Unjust? You would have to prove or give an argument on how God is unjust. I Richard the one who gets to decide what is just and unjust? God most certainly is just in all of His actions and the Bible proves this on many occasions. God did not just kill for no reason, He had a good reason. Richard also certainly doesn't know anything about the Mosaic law. Racist? The Bible says that the Hebrew race is the ultimate race. But keep in mind, there is only one race and that is the human race. If God is racist, then why is he the god of the gentiles? Unforgiving? the Old Testament is full of forgiveness! If Jesus is the messiah and really did die for our sins, would God be considered unforgiving? God warns before he punishes. I just want to add on that if the god of the Old Testament does exist (which I believe) then we all can agree his standards are higher than ours and if he is God, then he knows best. Richard is making this statement with his standards and his opinions. This is just pure blasphemy. If the Bible is made up and if the god of the Old testament is fictional, then why would someone want to create a jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully?

Richard is leaving out the rest of the Old Testament. What about the stories of God saving people, and taking care of his people. The promises he made and everything! The Jews didn't worship God out of fear, they worshiped him because he did so much for them. They worshiped him because he was a holy, just god.
